Operation Flashpoint: Red River Review

Reality, if it didn’t suck so much we probably wouldn’t play so many games. Yet there’s a constant unconscious desire to inject more reality into games. The previous Operation Flashpoint game, Dragon Rising, tipped the bar a touch too far presented an excruciatingly difficult military sim. Red River pulls the reality back an inch from ‘military sim’ to ‘tactical shooter’, but don’t expect a cake walk soldier. This is still a game about (imaginary) real soldiers.

It's been a long wait but here's the latest in Valve's brilliant, hilarious and often creepy Team Fortress 2 character movies. If they made a Team Fortress 2 tv show in this style I would be beyond delighted. Team Fortress 2 has also just announced a rather shocking surprise for lovers of the game, I won't spoilt it though, watch the below video to the end and enjoy.

So despite the numerous studies linking video games to increasingly violent and aggressive behaviour (there aren’t any, sorry ACL and ACCM) a new report out of the US links the increase in video game popularity with a decrease in incidences of violent crime which has dropped by half since 1991 in America.

Here's a link to the report.

So Robin is in Arkham City, but when I say without tights I don’t mean with his junk hanging out turkey slapping thugs in clown makeup, I mean he’s wearing his Red Robin outfit from the comics. What’s a Red Robin outfit? Sigh, okay. Click through if you must know.

Come join Jack Sparrow and myself on a journey across the high seas as we let you know whether this latest Lego centric title soars to the top of the mast or sinks to the bottom like a canon ball filled ship.

The Future Looks Like Yesterday

I had a piece all about E3 written and ready to go but I scrapped it. It started with some half assed lament about not getting to go again and how I wish I'd been there, but in retrospect, after having a few days quiet of the non stop news and announcements. I'm quite glad I didn't attend E3 this year, because in hindsight it really sucked. My article had some fluff commentary on some of the games I was interested in and a stab at the Wii U that I went back and half heartedly toned down.

But it's after midnight on a Friday and I'm feeling particularly toned up on the subject of games in general.
