Thumbpad Finale

Embarrased and ashamed of this outlandish and unscripted episode, the boys at Thumbpad almost didn't run it. I'm glad they did because it's an all out, balls to the wall videogame chat-fest that's ten times better than the 7pm project and not just because Wangas is a way hotter lesbian than Ruby Rose.

They recap the first 9 episodes of this fanastic up and coming videogame podcast series and look forward to season 2 where they're sure to win even more hearts and piss off even more people.

The write-up on their own website suggests to listen to previous episodes of Thumbpad to get a better idea of what the show is all about. I disagree. This is the Thumbpad boys at their absolute finest. Rock on boys. See you next season!

Regular visitors to That Aussie Game Site will know that for the past little while we have been syndicating the Thumbpad podcast. Thumbpad is an awesome show that follows a similar sensibility to that of the now defunct That Aussie Gamecast. As editor of That Aussie Game Site I hand picked Thumbpad (Desperately begged them) to feature on our humble little website, but what you may not know is that Mick, Aleks and Kane from Thumbpad are also involved in another project that is 100% more visual than the excellent Thumbpad podcast.

Made of Myth: How Videogames Were Really Made

Videogames are becoming fashionable. As the videogame fed generations move slowly into positions of influence we start to see videogame inspired t-shirts literring the walls of department stores and high-brow magazine articles about the 'culture' in Rolling Stone magazine. One of the more inspired pieces of videogame pop culture to emerge is the photography of Marc da Cunha Lopes for the French Games and Fashion magazine Amusement.

Marc da Cunha Lopes captures a fantasy world showcasing the real behind the scenes of retro gaming. Take note, Cliffy B. It's not all cocaine, gym-jivin' and toys all over your desk. Back in the 80s videogame development was a trade.

In what was the worst kept secret since the PSP go, god Sony you have a great track record don’t you?, a newer, slimmer and cheaper Playstation 3 was announced overnight at Gamescon. The new PS3 will be sold on the 1st of September with a price of $499.95. 200 dollars is a fairly large price cut if you ask me.

Why the Halo Movie Should be Shelved for Good

District 9 has just pulled up with a huge box office weekend, especially big for a first time director's film without a single big name actor in the whole production, not to mention forever renaming Neil Blomkamp from 'the guy who almost made the Halo movie' to 'the guy who made District 9'. All the buzz surrounding the film is ecstatically positive, it's a critics darling, a geek hard on and a joe blow summer blockbuster, all on a relatively cheap budget. Hell the entire film cost as much as having 1.5 Russel Crowe's in you're movie.

Now I say this as a sad act long time fan of Halo and all elements of the Halo universe, but the Halo movie really has to die right now.

Is Sharing Caring?

The games on demand system proposed by Microsoft should have been rolled out on your network connected Xbox 360 by the time you read these words. To put it mildly, it’s not quite the digital distribution revolution people were expecting.

Between insane levels of price gouging on games that have been available for over a year, not to mention notable differences in price between NTSC and PAL regions the Games on Demand system is pretty awful. But there’s another casualty to this feature that hasn’t got a lot of attention, the age old tradition of swapping games with your mates.

Release Date Madness!

I have always wondered if the people in charge of release dates for games were stupid considering that 90%, figure may be exaggerated, of games before this year had been released between September and December. While that makes some sense because that’s the holidays and people spend a lot of money. But there are 8 other months of the year that people play games.
