To be fair, the RTS genre didn't really go any where. The games that were being made tended to be focused on the pro circuit and most players migrated over to MOBA games. This is what makes Planetary Annihilation so fun to look at, it's an RTS game that could potentially be fun for regular people like you and me who don't like watching Korean's playing Starcraft no matter how much money is wagered (and we've all since learned every match is fixed by organised crime anyway) and don't like getting destroyed online by serious players.

After building up your base you can send troops of to other planets to build up more bases and launch interplanetary nuke strikes and drop robots onto enemy bases, you can even weaponise asteroids and rocket them into enemy planets. The game looks mad fun and the Kickstarter is looking for more money for the next few days which you can see here.

Whether it’s steampunk Star Wars or sci fi Lord of the Rings, I absolutely love doodlings by talented folk that genre mash well known pop culture stuff. This is one of the cleverest I’ve seen for a while though. Behold, classic Pokemon’s if they were designed by Tim Burton, gotta catch all your childhood nightmares!

Double Fine, Tim Schafer’s dream factory that produces games like Willy Wonka makes chocolate, has announced their next game, Middle Manager of Justice. In which you micro manage the worlds super heroes so they can effectively fight evil.

It sounds... I don’t want to say bad. Can I say zynga-ee as a word? It sounds zynga-ee. Not least of all because it’s a freemium game. But I have faith in Double Fine. I still play Brutal Legend from time to time in the vain hope my tortured love for that game will be rewarded. Still the best opening of any video game ever though.

So this guy made his own Gauss Gun, a gun that can propel bullets using magnetic copper coils up to a hundred meters a second. He’s the same inventor who came up with a wrist mounted crossbow and a circular saw blade launcher. In other words, he’s the last person someone should ever try to burgle and possibly the most prepared person for the zombie the apocalypse in the world.

A little out of no where comes the announcement from Kojima himself of MGS: Ground Zeroes. So what is it? Firstly, it is not Project Ogre, the mysterious game Konami has been working on for a while that we still no zero about, that’s still a whole nother thing. What Ground Zeroes is could bluntly be described as the most exciting MGS game in years.

I’ve seen dozens of Borderlands 2 trailers now, dubstep ones, funky Jungle song ones, Handsome Dan taunting ones. And yet, despite all of them really amounting to the same thing, each exceeds the entertainment value of the last, making me want the game more and more.

And so it is with Sir Hammerlock and his excellent introduction to the world of Pandora. Which is NOW the best Borderlands 2 trailer out there.

Here’s Sony’s new 84-inch XBR-84X900. It’s an LED based LCD TV and it is the world’s first 4K television. I googled 4K so you don’t need to, it’s a resolution used in cinema which translates to a 3,840x2,160-pixel resolution, or four times what your pathetic 1080p gets. Seriously, you and your TV disgust me so much right now.

So once you’ve bought this television for $31,000 US, roughly $250,000,000 in AUD (because it’s complicated and, you know, distributors or something) you can watch Timescapes, a movie about astronomy. After that you can watch it again, over and over; because Timescapes is the only piece of media currently available in 4K. Also, definitely don’t read any of those reviews online about 4K being a complete waste of time as the human eye can’t even see the difference between 1080p and 4K because you just spent $31,000 US on a television and we’re afraid you’ll jump out a window.

Confirmed today by none other than Penny Arcade Co-General Tycho today ago, there is a Penny Arcade Expo Australia in the works. Where will it be? When will it be? Will it be awesome? The answer to all of these questions is I don’t know, at this point we don’t know zip. The PAX and PAX East events in the US have quickly become the most popular games events in the world, surpassing exclusive hypefests like E3 and Tokyo Game Show with PAX’s own brand of fan driven fervour. I’ve all ready put a Mines of Moria Lego set at the top of my Christmas list (is it strange for a 33 year old man to want a Lego set for Christmas? Screw you inner adult! I’ll never give into your loafer wearing side mouth chuckling ways!) but somehow I don’t think the official set could hold a candle to this EPIC fan made Lego set by LEGOManiacs and official saints of blockdom Blake Baer and Jack Bittner. In BONUS Middle Earth news Peter Jacksons recently confirmed trilogy has been renamed. Where once it was the two part The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey followed by The Hobbit: There and Back Again, the second film will now be The Desolation of Smaug with There and Back Again becoming the third film title. Alongside the main Hobbit story of Bilbo, Thorin and the other Dwarves Peter Jackson plans to wind in a story mentioned in the appendix of the middle earth books about Aragorn and Gandalf having a Scooby Doo adventure chasing a Necromancer who turns out to be a weakened reincarnation of Sauron, the final destruction of his physical self in this story leads into him becoming a big scary eye in Lord of the Rings. Any other film maker would have me nervous about these expansions and changes, but the Jacksons, Fran Walsh and the rest of their Kiwi team have earned my ever lasting trust after the Lord of the Rings. I almost find it impossible to believe they could do any wrong.

How awesome is Bruce Lee? On a scale of 1 to 10 Bruce Lee is INFINITE. Because he is formless, like water, he can adopt any form of awesomeness that is required. While you may believe you know Bruce Lee is awesome, your perception can only capture a single spectrum of his multi dimensional awesomeality.
