4. Speedball 2

Where the hell are all the future sports games? Where’s gravball and death race and all these murderous blood thirsty sports alluded to in science fiction; more importantly where are the games based on these ideas. While there would likely be a public out cry from boring Mrs Lovejoy types if footy players wore spiked armour and started beating each other to death during matches, there’s certainly nothing wrong with violent games based on these hypothetical’s.

Speedball knew this, while the game was essentially just soccer without the no hands rule the main aim was usually to punch the day lights out of the opposition before scoring a goal. It’s such a simple, fun idea that its almost a little confusing that we haven’t had a new Speedball game in about twenty years. Or even better, a game based on the James Caan film Rollerball that inspired Speedball. The original Speedball was one of the best rated games on the Amiga 500 and the sequel added elite players to be purchased by your team and an excellent two player component. EA puts out ten sports games a year, can’t we just have one in which you get to maim the other team, pretty please? Online play would be a hoot.
