From the very first time I revved up a chainsaw bayonet and watched it spew black smoke I was in love with the Gears universe.  It featured jaw dropping graphics with over the top character models that all had the appearance of anabolic steroid abusers.  The unique third person shooter and cover system has already ‘inspired’ dozens of imitators.  Now this time around the promise is of a fully fleshed out story and lengthened campaign. 

I’ve watched the ‘Rendezvous’ trailer a ridiculous amount of times on my 50” display and it is stirring stuff indeed.  The only thing I can liken it to is a great WWII movie; Dom is lying on the ground like he has been gut shot and you get the feeling the boys are about to be overrun.  When Marcus revs the Lancer chainsaw and hands it to the wounded Dom it feels like Delta Squad’s answer to the “Fix bayonets!” call.  Surely if the trailer is this special, the game will be out of this world!

Epic have put a lot of development into multiplayer as well, players cannot just shotgun roll anymore and vastly reduced the amount of MP only achievements.  On top of this is a new 5 player co-op mode called Horde which sounds like a cross between Rainbow Six’s Terrorist Hunt and old school level based arcade shooters.  This looks like it will deliver everything a hotly anticipated sequel should.  You paying attention Bungie?
