Ever since playing Gears of War co-op I have yearned for an experience of matching quality and I’m still waiting.  Left 4 Dead looks like it could at least equal the enjoyment.  It is in essence a four player FPS designed for co-op where you have to survive a zombie apocalypse.  Working together is integral to survival; lone wolves will be gushing claret from their carotid arteries in no time flat.  The replay factor appears to be gigantic, enemy spawning is said to be left in the hands of an AI ‘director’ which constantly assesses difficulty and pacing of the action.  Supposedly no two games will ever play the same.  There is a multiplayer mode with one side playing as different types of zombies, it remains to be seen if this will be balanced enough to keep players coming back.  Developer Valve announced this week that dedicated servers will exist for this title and you can also host yourself.  Sounds promising for us Aussies online.
