Call of Duty: World at War Multiplayer Beta Hands-on

So what’s the overall verdict?  No doubt the popular opinion will be ‘COD4 in WWII’ and that is somewhat accurate.  There are some quality new additions like the Artillery Strikes, sound overall is very impressive and tanks have been implemented as a quality inclusion, not a tacked on feature for marketing purposes.  Map design appears to be excellent following the COD4 heritage and Makin is sure to be a classic.  On the downside some of the weapon attachments feel a bit silly in the WWII setting and seem to have been included to appease the series’ loyal fans.  At this stage there does seem to be enough of a new experience that I’m sure COD veterans will dip their toes in the water, whether they hang around to swim will come down to personal preference.  Personally I can see 10 Levels of Prestige to be negotiated particularly when there are Achievements and Gamerpics as a reward this time around.  The underlying theme for the new COD MP is enhancement not innovation and when your foundations are as solid as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’s that is most likely a good decision.  Hope to see you there.
