GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is instantly recognisable to any COD4 veteran with a couple of twists to spice it up. Given the WWII setting kill streaks have been modified to match the era. A 3 kill streak will generate a recon plane just like the UAV. My favourite is for a 5 kill streak; this will unleash an artillery barrage at a location of your choice and is particularly impressive both aurally and graphically. Being caught in one of these even of the friendly variety is an overpowering experience as the screen constantly shakes, your vision is blurred and smoke permeates the surroundings. To say it is intense is an understatement. The 7 kill streak unleashes attack dogs; these seem to be a little overpowered. On numerous times I have unleashed they have netted me a new recon plane and artillery strike in no time flat and consequently led to a second wave of attack dogs which had to wait for the first pack to finish before I could deploy. If you are on the receiving end you can shoot or more effectively knife for XP but if you miss they will maul you to death. If you kill them, they will respawn so it is purely time dependent before their attack finishes.
Overall graphics and sound are excellent just like its predecessor, I loved hearing Kiefer Sutherland and Gary Oldman performing voiceover during deathmatches. Graphically there is a bit more gore this time around with explosions looking particularly ghastly but certainly not in the neighbourhood of Brothers In Arms: Hell’s Highway.
But surely you all really want to know about the weapons, challenges and perks. They are all here back in earnest with a few surprises as well.
