Call of Duty: World at War Multiplayer Beta Hands-on

PERKS

It wouldn’t be Call of Duty without Perks and there a few new ones this time around, unfortunately Juggernaut is back.  In the Perk 1 slot you have Special Grenades x 3 which is unavailable when you have Smoke Grenades selected.  Satchel Charges once unlocked work just like C4 followed by the M9A1 Bazooka x 2 which is surprisingly underwhelming.   Firing directly at enemies with repeated shots did not yield returns on repeated occasions.  It takes more than two bazooka shots to destroy a tank as well which feels a little cheap.

Perk 2 slot gives us Stopping Power, Fireworks (higher explosive weapon damage), Flak Jacket (reduces explosive damage), Gas Mask (protects against Tabun Gas) and the aforementioned Juggernaut.  Every player seems to be just using either Stopping Power (yours truly) or Juggernaut (wusses!).

Perk 3 begins with my favourite Deep Impact, Extreme Conditioning and Steady Aim; the new twists are Toss Back (resets fuse of picked up grenades) and one which will be popular is Second Chance (revive downed allies) which works like COD4’s Last Stand but also allows you to be revived by anyone else with the perk.

Vehicle Perks are a new addition, for the Beta there are two you can only use in the Roundhouse map, there is Water Cooler (decreases turret overheat) and Greased Bearings (increases turret rotation speed).  The reload speed of the main gun is somewhat slow so I can highly recommend the Water Cooler perk.
