Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Welcome to the year 2027. You're name is Adam Jensen and you've been employed by corporate giant Sarif Industries as the head of security. Luckily you have come at the right time as one of the lead scientists, and your ex girlfriend, Megan Reed has uncovered the secrets to voluntary evolution, and plans too announce her findings at a meeting in Washington D.C. the following day. Unfortunately Dr. Reed finds herself at the wrong place at the wrong time when Sarif Industries comes under attack that night by what would seem to be an orchestrated attack from a group of augmented mercenaries, killing everyone in their wake including yourself. But there's one thing they didn't count on. You surviving.

While this game is based in a futuristic world, it is however based approximately 25 years prior to the original Deus Ex, in the time of bio-mechanical augmentations instead of the more impressive nano-mechanical augmentations. After the attack on Sarif Industries, you were left horribly mutilated with a ruptured stomach, a bullet wound to the head and minor burns. Through many pain staking hours of surgery you find yourself with a brand spanking new arsenal where your arms use to be. One word of advice would be to practice on a hot dog first if you ask me.

Hell bent on revenge you get pulled out of sick leave early to take on the extremely hostile Purity First group currently making siege inside one of Sarif Industries warehouses determined to destroy anything augmented. Unfortunately for them, one of their own are augmented and once you discover this person you can say goodbye to puny little mortals with machine pistols and hello to the paper trail that's about to lead you to the augmented mercenaries that murdered the one person you ever loved.

This game features more bells and whistles than you could poke a stick at and will have you gunning to know more of the story faster than you could say "I love having swords for arms". Throughout the game you will experience different things almost all the way to the credits. One of my personal favourites would have to be the close quarter take downs. While moving stealthily around the place you may find yourself next to an unsuspecting enemy and you might just think to yourself should i knock this guy out because I love being stealthed or should I kill him because its awesome and I love fire-fights. None the less you should not let things like this derive you from the more pressing matters at hand.

You will also gain EXP (Experience Points), once a certain amount of exp is attained you could consider yourself to "level up" and in return you will receive a Praxie Point. With this gift from the heavens you can use it to either upgrade one of your already learnt augmentational skills or use it to purchase a new skill altogether. Each skill tree if you will has it own pros and cons, while I personally preferred the more stealthy options including the ability to cloak and increase my energy bars, I did find myself somewhat saddened by the fact that many terminals and doors remained inaccessible to me because I chose not to enhance my hacking skills but that's my fault.

While at first this game could present itself as somewhat intimidating to the inexperienced Action Role-Playing gamer, it will appeal to most other types with its ability to let the user choose the outcomes of certain situations, run around and do every side mission you possibly can or just treat it like a First Person Shooter and kill everyone you see. It also boasts a large yet seemingly easy to follow landscape throughout the cities you travel along with an amazing colour scheme that just works like Vegemite on crumpets.

While unfortunately I did not get the opportunity to experience the first Deus Ex released in 2000, I loved every second of Deus Ex: Human Revolution and will find myself doing many replays as I believe such things as this deserve them.
