This is an important announcement for all gamers. Today it has been released that the Australian government has finally crumbled under the pressure of its gaming community and given the R18+ rating the go ahead. Don't go throwing zombie guts in the air just yet though, we won't be seeing and R18+ games hit our shelves until January 1st 2013. This is a big win for the Australian community as it helps show the world that we arn't a big bunch of babies and we can handle violent games too.

Minister for Home Affairs and Minister for Justice Jason Clare has today announced that an R18+ category for video games has at last become a reality. The legislation passed the Senate without amendment earlier this evening.

“These are important reforms over 10 years in the making,” said Mr. Clare.

"The R 18+ category will inform consumers, parents and retailers about which games are not suitable for minors to play, and will prevent minors from purchasing unsuitable material.

"The reforms also mean that adults are able to choose what games they play within the bounds of the law."

I don't know about you guys but I'm celebrating already and It was only passed meer hours ago. Hats off to everyone that signed petitions and got their voices heard.
