Just to warn everyone I’m away to the United Kingdom for just about the whole month of April so updates will be spotty (even spottier than normal and no this isn’t an early April fools). I've got some canned articles I'm going to load up to pop up over the next few weeks but I'll be unable to provide current news stories. Sorry. Also if you're not playing the Starhawk multiplayer beta which is available as a free download on the PSN right now you is crazy. Crazy I tell's ya! The game is mad fun.
So last week in gamer town...
More rumors are persisting of a new Xbox sometime this year or next year. But rather than the whole next generation of technology the rumors the actual hardware have slimmed down to a ‘price competitive’ version of the current Xbox focused on downloadable arcade games. Sort of an Apple TV version of the Xbox.
Starbreeze is working on a Free to Play game called Cold Mercury.
Mass Effect 3 is getting a changed ending to make all the whiners happy, yes you, you’re a whiner!
Brandon Sanderson, novelist best known as the guy who finished off the Wheel of Time series for the departed Robert Jordan, is getting his popular Mistborn series adapted into a game titled Mistborn: Birthright. A high fantasy series spanning over thousands of years, the trilogy has a legion of fans who are no doubt looking forward to this game, Sanderson is working closely with the developers and developing the script, the events of the game will be a prequel to the current trilogy.
Early previews of Assassins Creed 3 seem to point to a game that steps away from it’s previous installments and stands as it’s own title. Here’s some cool videos to get excited about.
Four Zero Two, or as his mum calls him Robert Bowling, has quit from his role as Creative Strategist for Call of Duty. Bowling was one of the remaining Infinity Ward staff who stayed on after a lot of the team made a well publicized departure last year.
Reviews for Ninja Gaiden are out, and while I don’t like to pass judgement on a game until I’ve played it myself, when you read three reviews with the word train wreck in them it’s a little telling.
Christ Metzen, the man at Blizzard whose job I want, is all ready talking about geeking out over the sixth World of Warcraft expansion following Mists of Pandaria.
Notch (his mum calls him Markus Persson, or maybe Marky) is working on a sandbox space opera title based on Elite. And is quoted as saying that he wants to make a game that feels like Firefly. Squeeeee.
Epic Mickey 2 is a thing and it’s coming to the 3DS.
Prey 2, which was shaping up to be pretty cool (even thought it looked like one of those games where they slap on a purchased license for brand awareness saying it has almost zero to do with the original Prey) has been cancelled.
A Kickstarter funded sequel to Wasteland has made its goal of 1.5 million.
The OnLive service has demonstrated running LA Noire on a tablet screen, and while the controls are reportedly crap, that’s still pretty impressive.
Starhawk Multiplayer will have splitscreen coop. Yay.
Dead or Alive 5 has several Virtua Fighters hidden in it’s code including Sarah Bryant and Pai Chan.
There’s a DS game on it’s way based on Cartoon Networks utterly brilliant show Adventure Time featuring the adventure of Jake the Dog and Finn the Human. It’s easily my favourite show of all time and the game is a day one purchase for me.
Uncharted 3 is dropping some new multiplayer maps soon. Reminding me that I somehow forgot to play Uncharted 3. Damn.
Here’s another trailer for Prototype 2, I just like posting them cause they look cool.
Baldurs Gate Enhanced Edition is coming to iPad.
The very cool looking Max Payne 3 multiplayer will be adapted in Grand Theft Auto V.
Here’s the trailer for Game of Thrones the game. Season 2 starts soon if you're a 'throney', or a 'throner'... what are we calling ourselves?
In the most terrifying news I’ve read all month Activision has registered Activision News.com to, presumably, report on how great everything they do is.
A fanmade Wing Commander game has actually been completed and is available to play right now http://www.wcsaga.com/
Here’s a nifty trailer for Darksiders II.
The Bioshock film has lost its director so don’t get your hopes up on seeing a Big Daddy on screen any time soon. The movie is a long way from happening.
