I've had a hideous day so let's just get right to it today okay? Good? Good.
(for you're information above is an image of what I feel like doing right now)
Arjan Brussee, the head dev for Guerrilla Studios the folks behind the acclaimed Killzone series to move to Dead Space creator Visceral studios. Unclear what this means for either franchise but I would doubt we’ve seen our last Killzone game.
In other interesting Killzone news the multiplayer component of Killzone 3 will soon be released on PSN as a standalone game with a free trial option and a level cap. Players who want to continue and advance their Killzone 3 skill tree can pony up $14.99 (US, likely double for Au) for the full game.
EA is getting back into the Basketball games this year with NBA Live 13, finally challenging 2K’s dominance of the sport.
EA have also teased the next Medal of Honour game, its official title being Medal of Honour: Warfighter. Not clear yet if you play as a peaceful protest movement fighting against war, or if the goal is to make war on fighters with scenes of operatives kicking down the UFC locker room door and shooting competitors. Or it might just be a terrible, generic game for another infantry game. EA will need something special, a lot more special than their last MoH game, if they want to stand out.
Assassin’s Creed Revelations has some campaign DLC coming called the Lost Archive that focuses on subject 16.
Here’s a trailer for Blackspace, a game that according to the developers melds Wing Commander with Real Time Strategy. Oh gosh yes, that sounds nice. http://www.joystiq.com/2012/02/23/pixelfoundry-founded-by-ea-tiburon-vets-first-game-is-pc-title/
The Chinese Room have unveiled the new Amnesia game subtitled, A Machine for Pigs. Other than sounding like a Nine Inch Nails track, the games premise sounds like a big departure from the gothic setting of the last game. Centered on a rich industrialist named Oswald Mandus and set in 1899, the game starts as Mandus wakes up, after being asleep for months due to a fever contracted during a trip to Mexico. While asleep he dreams of a ‘dark machine’ and when he wakes he hears the roar of an engine as a mysterious machine starts up. Sounds creepy; after playing The Dark Descent I’ll be wearing an adult diaper when I play this game.
The state of California is now 2 million dollars out of pocket after having to pay their own legal fees and the legal fees of the ESA following the failed case of Brown Vs EMA to take game distributors to task for retailing games that the state wanted to make it illegal and an offence with serious penalties to sell games to minors. The state lost and has ended up with a big bill. Hopefully this consequence might give other local government bodies as pause before they storm ahead with similar draconian game classification laws that seek to persecute retailers.
Borderlands 2 will be unleashing the Gunzerker this September. Gearbox has also announced another class to add to the roster, the Siren. Unlike the old Siren class and her phase walking skill the new Siren does something called Phase locking, which amounts to trapping enemies at a distance with a forcefield bubble. Expect more class types announced soon.
Also this is the amazing new trailer for Borderlands 2. Your new favourite expression is 'joypuke'.
The Starhawk Beta has gone public right now. You can be playing Starhawk instead of reading this! Just log into the PSN shop and download.
In a move best described as the eating of oh so humble pie, it’s been unveiled that Sony applied for a patent late last year that sounds very, very similar to the technology used by the Kinect. The patent was filed by Dr. Richard Marks, inventor of the PS Eye and the Playstation Move. It describes a depth sensing software that allows people to interact in real time with a three dimensional interactive environment. Images from the patent show diagrams of people doing the familiar arm waggle in front of a television.
The Game of Thrones RPG collecters edition practically begs me throw money at it.
One of the first of Xbox’s Arcade games of Summer/Winter may be Mark of the Ninja, a 2D side scrolling game that see’s you set up traps to assassinate targets. Looks a bit like Shadow Complex with ninjas instead of Nathan Drake clones. And where the hell is Shadow Complex 2?
Kinect dragon game Project Draco has now officially been titled Crimson Dragon. Will it actually be good though? Gamers still have nightmares about dragon riding game Lair.
The Simpsons have a freemium iOS game called Tapped Out that has you interacting with and rebuilding Springfield following a nuclear accident. Being a massive Simpsons freak I’ll have a review up as soon as I get it.
Hideo Kojima has been titillating fans recently about his next big thing, code named Project Ogre. So far it’s been revealed as an open world game with over a 100 hours of playtime. It’s also recently been revealed that the title Ogre actually refers to an ogre. The large and misunderstood fantasy mainstays will be in the game in some form.
Rather popular MMORPG Aion went free to play in North America last week. The game was all ready free to play in Europe.
The Boondock Saints are getting a video game telling the further stories of the McManus family. Although after Boondock Saints 2 I can’t imagine too many people are keen to know what happens next.
Son’s of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is also pushing for a video game adaptation of his hit HBO biker drama. That’s a project that could be interesting.
Developer Ironclad, known for popular space opera Sins of a Solar Empire, have just announced a medieval fantasy RTS game, Sins of a Dark Age. Ironclad are all up in the sin department it seems. Their new game SODA (ha ha that totally works) will be a freemium title with classic RTS gameplay mixed with DOTA style objectives. A commander manages and builds a base while up to four Hero units assault the enemy and collect resources. Sounds pretty cool to me, I’ve always thought RTS games, like fighting games, are an untapped resource for expansion and experimentation.
More MMO news, apocalyptic three faction war game The Secret World has been pushed back to a June release.
That's it, leave me alone with my anger, unless you have candy, if you have candy leave that first. Happy Tuesday!
