So almost a year ago now DC rebooted their whole universe. For some characters the changes were pretty minimal, such as Batman, but for DC’s other major character Superman the universe was very changed with Grant Morrison’s take pulling the character back to basics. This meant that a lot of his recent comic history, marrying Lois Lane, getting killed by Doomsday and killing off the Clark Kent alter ego, all got chucked out. Since then we’ve watched Superman slowly pick up familiar story elements, discovering he’s an alien, becoming a target of Lex Luthor, getting a job at the Daily Bugle and so on. One thing he’s not done though, is hook up with Lois Lane.

Well don’t hold your breath on that one.

DC has other plans for the romantic life of earth’s most popular illegal immigrant. Superman has got the Amazon fever and Wonder Woman is the cure. The two will begin going steady in Justice League #12 under the words of Geoff Johns and Jim ‘I can only draw one body type’ Lee. It’s a surprisingly bold move for a company that historically plays it boringly safe with their core characters.

Of course it’s not the first time Superman and Wonder Woman have gotten it on. Various else worlds and alternate universe stories has framed them as a couple, probably most well known, and most crudely presented in Frank Millers very bad The Dark Knight Strikes Again, in which they have a daughter named Lana.

Objectively, it makes way more sense for the two most powerful people in the world to get cozy in the evenings after a busy day of catching planes and fighting aliens. Larry Niven made a compelling arguement in his famous essay Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex (http://www.rawbw.com/~svw/superman.html) , popularised by Jason Lee’s famous speech in Mallrats which you can watch below (NSFW language). Also as I once worshipped this film as a teen it gives you a creepy introspection into my development.
