So I was going to type up a quick bit last Thursday about the Assassins Creed III artwork being leaked through a Gamestop newsletter.

Then the Game Informer cover dropped showing George Washington on the back cover flanked by troops, then the leaked screenshots, and the box art reveal, and the official webpage countdown. So screw it. Everything is below if you want to see it.

So it appears Assassins Creed III will be set during the American Revolutionary War when America told Britain to get fecked and became an independent country. For the record, we didn't have one of these, technically we're still a british colony, hence the union jack on the Australian flag and the fact the Queen of England is legally our highest ranking member of government.

The game is likely set in 1778 when the flag shown behind our new character was first used. This was also the year the French officially recognised the republic of the USA and King Louis XVI declared war on the British. There were several major battles that year involving George Washingtons forces and the british including the Battle of Monmouth that ended in a draw, the Battle of Wyoming where a force of loyalist soldiers and Iroqui indians slaughtered a band of Patriots killing 340 off them, the first battle of Ushant between French fleets and British fleets and the battle of Rhode island. It was a busy year, also Washington banished a Liutenant Friederick Gotthold Enslin from the army for getting all Brokeback Mountain with another soldier, but I don't think that will be covered in the game.

What really clinches the year 1778 for Assassins Creed III is the total solar eclips that occured during the year and was visible over most of the US. It's exactly the sort of historic cosmological even that would have a bearing on the sci fi mythos behind Assassins Creed.

The main character we know nothing about, he may be native american with his particular weapons of a tomahawk and bow and arrow, he's definitely a militia man fighting on the side of Washington's forces against the Red coats. But beyond that we still know nothing. Might be a good idea to check the official AC3 website in about two days to see a special reveal that might have new information.
