Okay, this is getting crazy, I am literally chomping at the bit to see what E3 is going to bring us. Look at this bit, absolutely chomped to hell.
Other stuff happened this week I suppose, not much of it very good. Well come on then. Click through and see what's happening. Also, if you're looking for something to do this week then do yourself a favour, play Prototype 2, don't even think, just do it. You will thank me later. Review coming soon.
So 38 Studios is done, with the dreaded, ‘Sorry folks, go home early today and don’t come in tomorrow’ email going out to staff on Thursday last week. In addition to being unable to make their loan payment of 1.1 million last month 38 Studios are unable to make payroll and have laid off all three hundred of their staff. The company received some high profile attention as its founder Curt Schilling is a retired pro baseball pitcher and its first game, Kingdoms of Amalur, attracted the talents of artist Todd Macfarlane and write RA Salvatore. Despite rave reviews and good sales the company has floundered and their upcoming MMO, codenamed Project Copernicus, will likely die with the company. Worst of all the loan the company took out was with the state of Rhode Island to the tune of $75 million bucks, a loan that won’t now be repaid and will leave the state massively out of pocket. Apparently Amalur 2 was in pre-production but that game is now dead is Dillinger (ask your parents, but trust me he's really dead).
To give you an idea how dead game news has been this week the 38 Studios meltdown has been a lead story every where, with some game blogs going so far as to analyse the press releases against the financial reports. See, we are all flipping dying for E3 to start.
Looks like the upcoming patch for Skyrim will add mounted combat. No more hopping of your horse to engage over enthusiastic love hungry trolls. Just wade into those randy bastards sword swinging. I suspect Bethesda are reading through my wish list for the next Elder Scrolls game from last week. Also, not sure if this is a joke, but apparently it's also getting functionality. It's probably not a joke.
Mass Effect 3 will have a free multiplayer update called Rebellion which adds a bunch of weapons and six new characters, including a playable Vorcha character, those massively ugly sharp tooth guys you spent so much time killing in Mass Effect 2. I’m enjoying the hell out of the Mass Effect multiplayer. It’s good stuff.
Marvel Heroes will be the long awaited Marvel MMO. And, in saying this know that I am a massive, MASSIVE comic book fan, it looks kind of crap. It just looks like an online version of Marvel Ultiamte Alliance, which wasn't an especially great game to begin with. Oh well.
While Microsoft talked up there being a lot of games involving Xbox Avatars, there really haven't been that many. Here's another one that's coming up that looks okay, a motorbike race game.
Aliens Colonial Marines got delayed (waaaail), but they did give us a cool new trailer. No, that's not good enough.
Here's purty concept art for Halo 4. Looking a little Mass Effecty to me.
Harry Potter's getting a Kinect game. Because Star Wars Kinect was soooo good.
And as I like this habit of capping of with a cool weird picture here's a girl doing the most amazing, pants wettingly good cosplay impression of the Witch from Left 4 Dead.
